The Land Rover entered production in 1948 with the car officially launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show. It was originally designed for farm and light industrial use with initial production only planned for a couple of years. This is where the Best 4 x 4 by far started its life with the resulting design becoming an icon and launching the whole industry 4 x4 sector. The original Series 1 used a 80-inch steel box section chassis and all aluminium bodywork (which has been retained throughout its production) Powered buy either a petrol or diesel engine and mated to a four-speed gearbox boasting selectable 4WD.
The Land Rover Series I 80” offered here is a 1952, 2 litre, petrol example finished in its original colour of Light Stone with Green interior. Having been supplied by W Holloway and Sons Ltd of Worcester on 10th March 1952 this stunning home market car has undergone a sympathetic restoration which was carried out by the well-known and respected Land Rover specialist FW 4 x 4. Works included a mechanical overhaul including, suspension and brake overhaul, new tyres fitted and comprehensive service and repainting back to its original colour.
