Introduced to the public in June 1970, the new “Range Rover” was launched as “A Car For All Reasons”, boasting a top speed of around 100 mph, a towing capacity of 3.5 tons, spacious accommodation for five occupants, hydraulic disc brakes on all wheels, and a groundbreaking four-speed, dual-range, permanent four-wheel drive system with lockable centre differential. It’s off road ability was beyond reproach, while the hose clean interior proved just the ticket for those with an active lifestyle. They had an ex-Buick 3.5 litre V8 engine producing 135 bhp.
