The Porsche 993, launched in 1993, was the latest version of the German company’s classic 911, which stretches all the way back to 1964. It is considered by many fans to be the last of the ‘classic’ 911s, and was the final 911 to be fitted with an air-cooled engine.
Exterior changes to the 993 from the previous 964 were significant, including sloping headlamps, wider front and rear bumpers that integrated smoothly with the body, wider wheel arches, raised front bonnet to increase luggage space, and ‘teardrop’ door mirrors. Overall, the car had a much more modern appearance.
Mechanically, improvements included an all-new multi-link rear suspension mounted on an aluminium subframe, six-speed manual transmission fitted as standard, refined optional all-wheel-drive system, larger brakes with drilled discs, and revised power steering.
After the success of the Turbo, Porsche decided to take the 993 racing and thus the GT2 was born. Initially built in order to meet homologation requirements for GT2 class racing, the road cars were named accordingly but badged as the 911 GT. The 993 GT2 featured widened plastic fenders and a larger rear wing with air scoops in the struts for improved engine cooling. The 993 GT2’s original 3.6 L engine generated a maximum power output of 424 hp through the rear wheels, which was upgraded to 444 hp in 1998.

Originally a factory non-sunroof 993 Carrera 2 it was supplied in Aventura Green with a factory 6 speed gearbox. This rare variation was painstakingly sourced as the perfect base on which to create this ambitious build and done so on a very original factory panel car.
Using the Porsche GT2 look arch extensions, a set of 3-piece split rims and of course the large fixed rear wing, this Carrera now looks every bit as good as the iconic original, made better further by the pearlescent finish of the Aventura Green colour perfectly framing its aggressive aerodynamic form.
Condition of the car is exceptional; an original panel example it has a deep, radiant shine across its surface with no discernible stone chips or blemishes to note.
Much like the exterior, no aspect was overlooked in creating a suitable GT2 style interior. Opening the door reveals the standard fit seats have been replaced with a beautiful set of hardback Recaro bucket seats, upholstered in a supple leather hide with contrast red stitching. This subtle detail can be seen throughout the cabin; with RS style door cards featuring red pulls, tonal red seat belts and a set of genuine lightweight carpets in place of the rear seats, featuring red GT embroidery at their centre. A Momo Corse leather steering wheel is the final touch that really rounds off an exquisite space, staying true to the lightweight ethos of the GT2 whilst retaining a luxurious edge.
Factory spec A/C remains in place as do the heated front and rear screens, whilst an upgraded pioneer head unit provides Bluetooth and AUX inputs to ensure this Evocation is comfortable enough for those longer journeys.
Engine & Transmission:
Thankfully the conversion of this 993 isn’t just skin deep; now featuring a twin-turbo 3.6L engine supplied and fitted by specialists Northway Porsche the 993 now produces around 500bhp, some 70bhp more than the standard GT2. With the power transferred via a factory spec G50/21 6-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels it makes for a truly rapid driving experience, made even better by the sound of the full custom Inconel exhaust system.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes:
The gold centre 18″ split rims tie together the GT2 aesthetic; presenting in immaculate condition they provide a substantial weight saving over the standard Carrera 2 alloys.
Matching Yokohama Advan tyres are the rubber of choice with good tread all the way around. Suspension has been uprated to include fully adjustable coilovers and some more substantial anti-roll bars, all professionally set up to provide an incredibly direct driving experience.
Red callipers show through the gold spokes and paired with some drilled steel discs perform very well in bringing all 500 bhp to a halt.
First registered in Japan on 08/03/1996 this 993 was a factory non sunroof Aventura Green Pearl Carrera 2, as outlined by a Porsche Certificate of authenticity. Some Japanese paperwork is present alongside a Jevic Co History report specific to the cars time in Japan.
The cars exceptional condition and rare factory spec made it the ideal base for an ambitious GT2 style project and so it was imported to the UK, where is was registered in 2019. A folder of invoices outlines much of the work undertaken by the owner, most importantly the engine swap for a twin turbo unit which was undertaken by specialists Northway Porsche in July 2019, less than 3,000 km ago. From this point onward the car has been a labour of love, with the owner meticulously sourcing parts and having work carried out to ensure the car was thoughtfully converted to a wonderful GT2 Evocation.
Present with the car is a folder of Japanese history, UK invoices, import paperwork V5 and a set of keys.
