Original advertising artwork for Moonraker

Macmillan Company, [New York, 1955]

The original advertising design for the first US edition of Fleming's Moonraker, published in September 1955. The design, prepared by Macmillan's studios, shows a spirit bottle with the catch line "Feeling listless? Jaded? Fed up? Stop at your local bookshop for a dose of Moonraker", as well as a quote from Raymond Chandler describing the work as "forceful and driving". Macmillan used this design to "run a number of full-page full-color sic advertisements showing a cordial bottle" (Nilsen & Ellison, p. 273).

Sheet of Bainbridge artist's board (205 x 200 mm). Mapping ink and printed collage design, blue pencil guide lines and annotations to verso, "Macmillan" inscribed in pencil to recto.

A couple of the pasted letters a little delicate. Slight creases and faint marks to board; overall in bright condition.
