Introducing Peregrine: 8 Generations Of Knitwear Knowledge

We proudly introduce a venerable British knitwear manufacturer that was established in 1796 and is currently run by the eighth generation of the Glover family. Their finely crafted sweaters are produced in England from British wool, embracing skills and traditions that have been maintained for over two centuries, providing warmth, comfort and timeless classic style.

Thomas Glover began the family business at the turn of the eighteenth century in the small Leicestershire town of Wigston Magna - long renowned as an area of knitwear production. His two children, Thomas and William, took over the venture in 1824 and continued the hand frame knitting of jumpers using locally sourced yarn. As the company passed from one generation to the next it developed in scale and by the early 1900s had secured substantial contracts to supply knitwear to the British military.

By the 1920s, J. G. Glover & Co. Ltd. employed over 300 people and, following a two-week boat journey across the Atlantic by then proprietor John Glover, started to export its products to the United States and other markets around the world. In 1956, John’s son Donald drove the business further forward by introducing a new brand, “Peregrine Clothing”.

After graduating in design in 2003, Tom Glover (born 1980) joined the business and soon began to remodel Peregrine Clothing in his own vision. Tom reestablished the brand with clean, contemporary designs, adding woven goods (including shirts and outerwear) to the core collection of knitted garments. The brand continues to follow the values and philosophy that have seen the family business endure 222 years of changing times, and remains committed to the fact that everything is, and always will be, 100% Made in England.

To complement their knitwear collection, Peregrine have created a number of outerwear pieces that offer traditional British design with contemporary flair. Their short biker-style jacket and longer field-coat are both manufactured using cloth from Lancashire-based textile company British Millerain - the original manufacturer and world's leading specialist in the production of waxed-cotton fabrics.
