Dear Santa,

The time’s arrived when we need to compose our most important correspondence of the year, and I’ve been comparing notes with a couple of members of the Mason & Sons team on what our individual top-three gift wishes would be (naturally, selected from the products offered by our approved purveyors).

The Aston, the Rolex, and the Novel

Surprisingly, we all picked the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 in Snow Shadow Grey, the 1959 Rolex Big Crown Submariner Reference 6538, and the 1959 First Edition, First Impression Copy of ‘Goldfinger’ Signed by Ian Fleming. Sadly, there is only one of each item available, so we’ve revised our lists:

DAVID'S LIST:

Given my impending move to Miami, I’ll attempt to keep the ‘Goldfinger’ theme running by listing something that I could wear if I visit the Fontainebleau hotel – no, not the towelling onesie – a new pair of sunglasses!

Ed Scarlett 'Soho' spectacle frames in Champagne with Grey 'Flip-Up' Clip-Ons

I normally wear the ‘Soho’ spectacle frames by Ed Scarlett, which are now available with flip-up, clip-on, sun lenses. I already have the three available stock colours, but a new custom frame-making service is about to be launched, offering an endless number of material options. Can’t wait!

I’d also like a timepiece for the beach. I believe there’ve been recent shark sightings on the shoreline, so I’ll go for the Alsta ‘Superautomatic’ – appropriate, given its appearance in the classic 1975 movie ‘Jaws’.

Finally, thinking ahead to next year’s letter to Santa, I’d like to impress him with a handwritten note on personalised stationery from Smythson of Bond Street. I’ve been carrying their Panama notebooks on my travels for decades, but it’s time to trade up to bespoke.

ELLIOT'S LIST:

Whilst Mason Snr. is sunning himself on the beach, I will be holding down the fort (and braving the weather) in London. My first pick is therefore the ‘Yacht’ cardigan by Begg X Co - a soft, rugged (and warm) piece of knitwear produced in 8-ply Scottish cashmere - preferably in every colour!

I’d also like an Alsta watch, but not to wear on the beach – I’ll be wearing it on my motorbike. Their ‘Motoscaphe’ was engineered with the motorcyclist in mind, having a ‘destro’ crown on the left (rather than right) side of the case, making for a comfortable ride.

Staying on two wheels, my final pick would be the Bennett Winch ‘Trifold’ garment bag, that will allow me to travel in style - and look stylish when I slip into my suit at the end of the journey.

RYAN'S LIST:

I’ve always been a great fan of Steve McQueen, and I’m delighted that we’ve launched the fundraising campaign for Boys Republic. I’d therefore like to wish for a pair of the Steve McQueen Eyewear ‘1967’ sunglasses, which will provide me with a gift, and Boys Republic with a donation!

Staying on the McQueen theme, I’ve always coveted the ultra-rare Hanhart ‘417 ES’ watch that he wore in the 1960s. The company has recently re-issued this model, and I’d obviously like it with the black leather ‘Bund’ strap.

One of my favourite McQueen films is ‘The Sand Pebbles’, the movie for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. The wardrobe enhanced my love of the Peacoat, and I think the original Camplin model is still the coolest out there, so I’m adding it to my list.

We sincerely hope that all of your wishes come true, and that you have a most enjoyable festive season.
