Remaking the 1964 Triumph TR6 ISDT

In 1964, Hollywood actor Steve McQueen, along with his friends Bud Ekins, Dave Ekins, Cliff Coleman, and John Steen, represented the United States at the International Six Day Trial (ISDT) in East Germany, marking the first-ever U.S. team in the event. McQueen proudly carried the ‘Stars and Stripes’ for the team during the opening ceremony. The Triumph Trophy TR6 #278 had been delivered to McQueen in London where he personally modified the machine in preparation for the race.

Ace Classics, the London-based Triumph specialists, have a passion for classic Triumph motorcycles, and in recent years, they've created several Steve McQueen replica bikes. Among them are legendary models including The Great Escape Motorcycle, a number of Desert Sleds, and the TR6SC that McQueen rode at the ISDT.

Today, Ace Classics recreates replicas of this iconic machine, meticulously crafting the unique parts McQueen customized, such as the air bottle, the bash plate for the chaincase, special quick-release front and rear wheels, and more.

Kev Rushworth, the owner of Ace Classics talks through the modifications in the video below:
